This article states that the intent of the shell of the building lies behind the illustration of the fans entering the stadium as a rhythmic procession. The crater-like atmosphere that the stadium gives the spectator is mimicked from Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. The colors of the ETFE cushioned plates that adorn the outside of the building can be changed to suit the occasion. The website link is attached here.
